Coleman-Williams unlikely to play for Alabama vs. Tennessee

Alabama wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams is unlikely to play against No. 14 Tennessee on Saturday because of multiple injuries, according to coach Kalen DeBoer. Coleman-Williams is dealing with an ongoing knee issue along with a head injury sustained in the Crimson Tide’s 20-17 loss to Georgia.

“He’s got a couple things going on,” DeBoer said. “Got to work through an injury with the knee that’s been kind of going on. We’ll deal with that.

Got the head issue as well. Gonna address that, even the lower extremity there, this week. Pretty good chance we wouldn’t have him this weekend.

Probably be week-to-week after that.” DeBoer did not give the injury an official designation.

What’s Next For Alabama

Alabama hosts No. 14 Tennessee on Saturday. Coleman-Williams’ status is expected to be updated as the week progresses. DeBoer’s “week-to-week” language suggests he could also be questionable for the Crimson Tide’s Nov. 7 game against LSU.

Coleman-Williams wore a brace on his right knee during Alabama’s past two games. Against Georgia, he left the field twice: once after landing awkwardly on a leaping catch attempt in the second quarter and again in the fourth quarter after Georgia safety KJ Bolden hit him in the head. He needed help leaving the field each time.

Who Could Replace Coleman-Williams

With Coleman-Williams sidelined, Alabama is expected to employ more of a committee approach at wide receiver. Lotzeir Brooks and Rico Scott have each caught more than 18 passes and topped 200 receiving yards this season with breakout quarterback Keelon Russell.

Coleman-Williams’ Season So Far

Coleman-Williams is having a resurgent season for Alabama after working in the offseason to clean up drop issues. He has 23 catches for 415 yards and four touchdowns, leading the team in receiving yards and touchdown catches while tying for the team lead in receptions. He had three catches for 39 yards before leaving against Georgia.

The 2024 All-SEC honoree also has history against Tennessee, catching five passes for 87 yards in last season’s 37-20 win over the Volunteers.
