Florida State dismissed freshman cornerback Chuck Kennon from the football team on Monday for conduct detrimental to the team, according to a university spokesman.
Kennon, the Seminoles’ top-ranked signee in the 2026 class, ranked as the No. 51 overall prospect and the No. 6 cornerback in the nation. He was one of just three Top247 signees in Florida State’s 2026 recruiting class and carried a 247Sports grade of 97.
The Main Development
Kennon committed to Florida State on July 6, 2025, choosing the Seminoles over more than three dozen scholarship offers from schools including Georgia, Florida and Miami.
A Booker High School standout, Kennon was considered one of the top 10 cornerbacks in the nation.
Cornerbacks coach Blue Adams praised Kennon during preseason camp. “He’s young, he’s energetic,” Adams said, per On3. “Sometimes you’ve got to tell him, ‘Hey, focus up.
We’re going this direction.’ But he’s coachable. That’s what I like about him.”
What It Means
Kennon appeared in just one game this season, playing late in Florida State’s win over Virginia two weekends ago. He was not dressed out for games early in the year.
Context
Kennon’s dismissal removes the headline name from a 2026 class that counted only three Top247 signees. Cornerbacks coach Blue Adams was high on Kennon during preseason camp, and defensive coordinator Tony White said earlier this year that Kennon had the potential to work his way into the defensive rotation as a freshman.
What’s Next
Florida State’s secondary has been depleted by injuries, with defensive backs Karson Hobbs, Zae Thomas and Jordan Crutchfield sidelined, and Ashlynd Barker playing through an arm injury, testing the Seminoles’ depth at the position.
