The Celebrini injury update leaves San Jose waiting on its captain. Macklin Celebrini was scratched shortly before Monday’s game in Dallas with a lower-body injury, and the Sharks lost 5-0.
Celebrini participated in warmups but left the ice early. Coach Ryan Warsofsky said afterward that the center was still being evaluated, according to the Associated Press. He did not provide an injury severity or return date.
Celebrini injury prompts changes at center
Ty Dellandrea made his season debut in Celebrini’s place. Alexander Wennberg moved to the top line, though San Jose continued changing its combinations during the game.
CBS Sports’ RotoWire update said Celebrini remained with the team and would undergo further assessment Tuesday. Staying at the arena does not establish how serious the injury is.
Sharks await clarity before St. Louis
San Jose’s next scheduled game is Thursday in St. Louis. Celebrini’s availability remains uncertain.
The loss followed the Sharks’ overtime win against Los Angeles. Celebrini is central to San Jose’s plans after signing a long-term contract extension over the summer.
