It was a dominant performance in near-perfect running weather. The meet was held at Susquehanna University in Lock Haven. Pennsylvania.

For the men, senior Joey Locke finished seventh for the Catholic University Cardinals. The next finishers for Catholic University Cross Country were a junior, a sophomore, and a freshman. For the women, freshman Saffron Blume finished second, and Sophomore Olivia Sobkowicz was fourth. The Cardinals also had the fifth-place finisher in that race.

Catholic University Cross Country had a very good Landmark Conference Championship. The women won, and the men placed third. There were personal bests up and down the race order, and there were Cardinal athletes placed highly in both races. The team is stacked, and the future is bright. Here is how the race turned out.

Men

The Catholic University Cross Country men’s team finished third in the Landmark Conference championship. This was an excellent performance for the team. Moravian won the meet, and Elizabethtown was second. Senior Joey Locke finished in seventh place with a time of 25:44.8 on the eight-kilometer course. That time was a personal best, and he was named all-conference by virtue of his great performance.

The second finisher for the Catholic University Cross Country team was junior Patrick Morris. He was tenth with a time of 25:59.2. He was named second team all-conference. Sophomore Matt Haugh and Freshman Aidan Malloy finished back-to-back in twentieth and twenty-first place. Haugh’s time of 26:29.4 was a personal best, while Malloy recorded a time of 26:31.0.

Junior Kamran Jagadesan was the final male runner for Catholic University Cross Country. He was 23rd overall, and he recorded a personal best time of 26:36.2. Eleven other male runners ran in the race for the Cardinals, with one not finishing.

Women

The women won the conference championship and dominated the race. This was their third conference championship in the last four years, and Catholic University Cross Country placed five runners in the top twenty. They did very well, and they scored just 38 points. This total beat the favorite, Scranton, by 22 points; they scored 70 points.

Freshman Saffron Blume was second in the race. She finished in 21:50.6 and was the fastest freshman of the meet. Because of that, Blume earned the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year title. This is the second season in a row that the Cardinals have brought home the honor. Olivia Sobkowicz earned that honor last year for Catholic University Cross Country. The future is bright for the team, no doubt.

She was the next Catholic finisher. The sophomore placed fourth with her time of 22:10.9. Right behind her was senior Laurel McMahon. She was fifth with a time of 22:19.2. All three of those runners were all-conference performers.

Senior Alexa Grassi got a personal best with a time of 22:42.2 and a ninth-place finish. She was a second-team all-conference performer. Sophomore Erin Roche was 18th. She had a personal best of 23:33.1. She was honorable mention all-conference.

Conclusion: They crushed it!

Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Steve Rahn said, “They crushed it!” Head Coach of Cross Country JT Klopcic added, “It was great to see both the Men’s and women’s sides perform so well when it matters. Highlighted by the women’s win, consistently being top 3 is a great place to be. Next for Catholic University Cross Country is the South regional championship at the University of Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 14.
