Michael Brennan closed with a three-under 68 to win the Baycurrent Classic in Japan on Sunday, holding off Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell by one stroke to collect his second PGA Tour title of the season. Brennan finished at 16-under 268 at Yokohama Country Club, parring his final six holes to seal the victory.

The win is the third of Brennan’s career across 33 PGA Tour starts, a rapid climb for the 24-year-old former Wake Forest player who broke through just two months ago.

The Main Development

Brennan entered the final round tied for the lead with Bridgeman and Zach Bauchou, then had to grind through trouble to get it done. A bogey on the 10th hole threatened to unravel his round, but Brennan answered immediately with birdies on 11 and 12 to steady himself.

The decisive stretch came late. On the par-3 16th, Brennan found a greenside bunker and had to save par from a foot away to keep his lead intact, according to Sky Sports. He parred the rest of the way in to close out the one-stroke win.

What It Means For Brennan’s Second Title Of The Season

This marks Brennan’s second title of the season, following his breakthrough victory at the Wyndham Championship in August. Paired with last year’s win at the Bank of Utah Championship, Brennan now has three PGA Tour titles in just 33 career starts, a pace that places him among the Tour’s fastest-rising young players.

Brennan finished the season 46th in the FedExCup standings, a number that will look different once this result factors in. Two wins in the span of a few months signal a player who has moved past being a one-off winner and into a consistent contender on Tour.

How The Chasers Fell Short

Bridgeman shot 69 in the final round but could not find the putt he needed down the stretch, missing a birdie attempt from five feet on the par-4 17th. His last chance came on the 18th, where a 55-foot birdie putt slid four feet wide of the hole.

Mitchell shot 68 and briefly looked like the man to catch, building a two-shot lead at one point after playing a five-hole stretch in five under that included three birdies and an eagle. He could not sustain it, playing his final 10 holes in two over to finish tied with Bridgeman at 15-under.

Defending champion Xander Schauffele tied for fourth at 13-under after a double bogey on the 18th hole, sharing that spot with England’s Jordan Smith.

What’s Next

Brennan’s victory at the Baycurrent Classic adds another data point to a season that has already produced two wins, with his FedExCup standing set to climb from its prior 46th-place mark once the result is reflected. No details on his next scheduled start were included in tournament coverage.
