Braelon Allen Fantasy: 3 Essential Facts, Tough Hall Injury

Braelon Allen fantasy value is rising after Breece Hall's injury. Here is what Jets managers need to know before Week 4.

Braelon Allen fantasy value is rising fast after Breece Hall hurt his thigh in the Jets’ 31-24 loss at Detroit on Sept. 27. Hall is out for Sunday’s game at Chicago, and Allen is the back managers want.

What happened to Breece Hall

Hall got hurt on the first drive of the fourth quarter, on a second-and-goal play at the Detroit 4-yard line, KSL reported. He had 13 carries for 32 yards and three catches for 23 yards before he left.

“I felt something when I was running and then got tackled and planted and then felt something else,” Hall told reporters, per KSL.

An MRI followed. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Hall as week to week, according to NFL.com. The Jets then ruled him out with a quad injury after he missed practice Wednesday through Friday, as we reported.

Braelon Allen fantasy outlook for Week 4

Allen took every backup touch against Detroit, NBC Sports noted. He ran four times for 14 yards and caught three passes for 3 yards.

That’s a small sample. It does show the Jets turned to him when Hall left.

NFL.com lists Allen among its top waiver targets and says he was rostered in just 14% of ESPN leagues heading into Week 4. It adds that he could produce RB2 numbers as a starter.

Isaiah Davis is the other back to watch. The Fantasy Footballers expected both Allen and Davis to see more work if Hall missed time.

Bears matchup and waiver advice

The Jets visit the Bears at Soldier Field. NFL.com calls Chicago a “suspect defense” for fantasy purposes, though that is one outlet’s view. Our Jets vs. Bears preview has the Bears at 2-1, and their quarterback situation is part of the story.

Treat Braelon Allen fantasy value as an RB2 with upside, not a lock. The Jets are also without wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, tight end Mason Taylor and guard Dylan Parham, so the offense is thin around him.

If you need a running back, Allen is worth the claim. The Braelon Allen fantasy case is simple: a starter’s workload, a thin backfield and a Hall absence. Check the inactives before kickoff.
