Atlanta Falcons-Defensive End Leonard Floyd Agree On 1-Year Deal

Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons and Defensive End Leonard Floyd agreed on a 1-year deal worth $10 million on Tuesday. After being released by the San Francisco 49ers earlier today, the veteran signed with the Falcons a few hours later. Floyd is coming off a solid 2024 campaign with the 49ers. He had 42 total tackles and 8.5 sacks.

This is a homecoming of sorts for Floyd as he was born and raised in the “Peach State.” He also attended the University of Georgia from 2013-2015. How will Floyd play for the Atlanta Falcons in 2025?

Atlanta Falcons Offseason Outlook

Floyd joins a Falcons team going through a makeover this offseason. Michael Penix Jr. will be the team’s starter and the team is expected to move on from veteran Quarterback Kirk Cousins sometime this week. Floyd is not the only defender Atlanta has added this offseason. They signed Linebacker Divine Deablo to a 2-year contract on Monday. Atlanta’s pass rush was one of the league’s worst in 2024. They had the NFL’s second-fewest sacks. Floyd will look to improve that part of the squad in 2025.

Final Thoughts

Atlanta will enter 2025 with high expectations. If they want to have a successful season, it will be their offense that needs to carry the load. Penix Jr. will have at his disposal some of the league’s best skill-position players. Even though Atlanta has a talented offense, they should look to continue improving their defense in free agency and next month’s NFL Draft.
