Atlanta Falcons Facing Nightmare Scenario as Jalon Walker Reportedly Feared to Have Torn ACL
The Atlanta Falcons may have suffered one of the most devastating injuries of training camp.
After linebacker Jalon Walker was carted off the field during Tuesday’s practice, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Falcons fear the second-year pass rusher has torn his ACL. Walker is expected to undergo an MRI to confirm the diagnosis.
If confirmed, it would be a crushing blow for a Falcons defense that was counting heavily on Walker to take a major leap in 2026.
Emotional Scene at Practice For The Atlanta Falcons
Reports from Atlanta described a sobering scene on the practice field.
Walker suffered an apparent leg injury and remained on the ground while medical personnel attended to him. Teammates gathered around him before he was carted off, and the emotional reaction reportedly led the Falcons to cut practice short.
Any training camp injury is concerning, but the reaction from players and coaches suggested immediate concern about the severity of the situation. Unfortunately, Rapoport’s report only intensified those fears.
Walker Was Expected to Be a Defensive Cornerstone
The timing couldn’t be worse for Atlanta.
Walker, the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, was expected to be one of the centerpiece defenders in the Falcons’ pass rush this season. As a rookie, he appeared in 15 games and finished with 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery while flashing the potential that made him a first-round selection.
Many around the organization believed 2026 would be the year Walker established himself as one of the NFL’s rising young edge defenders.
Now that progress may be put on hold.
Falcons’ Pass Rush Suddenly Looks Thin
The injury is particularly damaging because Atlanta was already dealing with uncertainty along the edge.
The Falcons spent significant draft capital in 2025 to bolster their pass rush, selecting both Walker and James Pearce in the first round. However, Pearce is currently facing the possibility of league discipline stemming from an offseason arrest, creating additional uncertainty heading into the season.
If Walker misses substantial time and Pearce is unavailable, Atlanta could suddenly find itself without two players it viewed as foundational pieces of its pass-rushing rotation.
That’s a troubling situation for a defense that has spent years searching for consistent pressure off the edge.

For now, the focus shifts to the MRI.
Until testing is completed, the Falcons won’t have an official diagnosis. However, Rapoport’s report that the injury is feared to be an ACL tear is the worst-case scenario Atlanta was hoping to avoid.
If the fears prove accurate, Walker would likely miss the entire 2026 season.
That’s not only a major setback for Atlanta’s defense, but also for a young player who appeared poised for a breakout campaign.
The Falcons entered training camp hoping Walker would become one of the leaders of their defense. Now they’re simply hoping the initial fears turn out to be wrong.
