Georgia is the new No. 1 team in college football, and the path to the top ran straight through Tuscaloosa. The Bulldogs beat Alabama 20-17 on Saturday night, their first win in that building since 2007, and the result reshuffled the entire AP Top 25 poll movers list heading into Week 7. Texas fell out of the top spot after losing the Red River Rivalry, Oregon dropped after an upset at home, and Florida suffered the week’s steepest decline following a blowout loss at Missouri.
1. Georgia Bulldogs (No. 1, Beat Alabama 20-17)
Georgia’s trip to Tuscaloosa produced the signature win of its season and the program’s first No. 1 ranking since September 2024. The Bulldogs, the reigning back-to-back SEC champions, won by three points but ended a drought that had followed them since 2007. The victory also knocked Alabama out of the top five entirely, a sign of how much weight this single result carried across the rest of the poll.
2. Texas Longhorns (No. 4, Lost To Oklahoma)
Texas had held the No. 1 ranking since beating then-No. 1 Ohio State back in Week 2, but that reign ended Saturday in the Red River Rivalry. According to Yahoo Sports, quarterback Arch Manning “had a horrendous fourth quarter” as Oklahoma kicked a game-winning 47-yard field goal to take the rivalry trophy. Texas dropped to No. 4, but its head-to-head win over Ohio State from earlier in the season was enough to keep the Longhorns inside the top 10 despite the setback.
3. Oregon Ducks (Upset At Home By UCLA)
Oregon’s home loss to UCLA produced one of the week’s bigger surprises, according to CBS Sports. UCLA improved to 5-0 with the win in Eugene, and the result triggered a dramatic rise for the Bruins while pushing Oregon in the opposite direction. The Ducks’ drop stands as one of the clearest examples of how a single Saturday result can swing the rankings when an unbeaten team falls at home.
4. Florida Gators (Largest Drop In The Poll)
Florida took the week’s biggest hit after a 45-17 loss at Missouri, according to Sports Illustrated, which reported the Gators lost 581 votes following the result. Florida also dropped out of the US LBM coaches poll entirely, joining Duke and Pittsburgh among teams that fell out of that ranking. The scale of the loss to Missouri left little room for Florida to hold its spot in either major poll.
5. UCLA Bruins (5-0 After Road Win At Oregon)
UCLA’s win in Eugene pushed the Bruins to 5-0 and produced a sharp climb up the board. Beating a ranked Oregon team on the road is the kind of result that tends to carry weight with both poll voters, and UCLA’s unbeaten record now stands as one of the stronger resumes in the sport through Week 7.
6. Iowa Hawkeyes (5-1 After 41-24 Win At Washington)
Iowa improved to 5-1 with a 41-24 win over Washington in Seattle, the program’s first regular-season win in the Pacific time zone since 1965. The Hawkeyes had entered this stretch with a reputation built on a stalwart defense, but Sports Illustrated noted the team still dropped six spots the week before after a loss to Ohio State at home, showing how quickly a single defeat can offset a strong defensive identity in the rankings.
7. Kentucky Wildcats (5-1, Wins Over Texas A&M And LSU)
Kentucky is set to re-enter the AP Top 25 after a one-week stay earlier in the season, improving to 5-1 behind wins over Texas A&M and LSU. The win over LSU handed the Tigers their second loss, according to Yahoo Sports. Kentucky’s return gives the SEC another ranked team in a week when several of the conference’s marquee programs took losses.
8. Pittsburgh Panthers (5-0 But Facing A Key Injury)
Pittsburgh entered the AP Top 25 after a narrow win at Virginia Tech and remains undefeated at 5-0. The win came at a cost, though. Star quarterback Mason Heintschel tore his ACL in that game and is out for the rest of the season, according to Sports Illustrated, leaving the Panthers to navigate the remainder of their unbeaten campaign without their starter.
9. Indiana Hoosiers (Rallied Past Nebraska 20-17)
Indiana trailed Nebraska 17-6 in the fourth quarter before two big passing touchdowns turned the game around for a 20-17 win, according to Yahoo Sports. The comeback adds another quality result to the Hoosiers’ resume and contributed to Nebraska’s slide after holding a double-digit lead late in the game.
Oklahoma’s win in the Red River Rivalry and Georgia’s statement victory in Tuscaloosa set the tone for this week’s AP Top 25 poll movers, with the next round of results due out following Saturday’s Week 7 slate. Several ranked teams, including Georgia, Oklahoma and Kentucky, are back in action this week with another chance to reshape the board before the following poll release.
