Angel Reese Sets WNBA Finals Record With Three Straight Double-Doubles

Angel Reese became the first player in WNBA Finals history with three straight double-doubles as the Dream took a 2-1 series lead over the Valkyries.

Angel Reese posted a double-double in all three games of the 2026 WNBA Finals, becoming the first player in league history to open a Finals series with three straight double-doubles. The milestone came during Atlanta’s Game 3 win over the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday at State Farm Arena, a result that put the Dream ahead 2-1 in the series.

Reese finished Game 3 with 21 points and 12 rebounds. She followed a Game 2 line of 30 points and 16 rebounds, a performance that helped Atlanta break through for its first Finals win since the franchise began play in 2008 as an expansion team, according to USA Today.

The Finals Double-Double Streak

No player had recorded three consecutive double-doubles to start a WNBA Finals before Reese did it this week. The streak spans the Dream’s entire series to date, meaning Reese has produced at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in every Finals game she has played this postseason.

Her Game 3 total of 21 points and 12 rebounds came in a contest where Atlanta shot 49% from the field compared to 35% for Golden State, according to USA Today. The Dream also won the paint battle 44-20, a gap that lines up with the physical rebounding numbers Reese has put up across the series.

What The Streak Means

A double-double in each of three straight Finals games sets a bar no other player in league history has cleared, based on the Finals record Reese now holds. It also marks the first time the Dream have strung together Finals success of any kind since the franchise’s 2008 inception, a drought USA Today connected directly to Reese’s Game 2 breakout.

The milestone did not happen alone. Teammate Rhyne Howard set a Finals record with six steals in Game 2, then followed with five more in Game 3, making her the first player in Finals history with five-plus steals in back-to-back games, according to USA Today. The pairing of a rebounding double-double streak with a historic steals run gives Atlanta two separate individual records inside the same three-game stretch.

Context From Game 3

Atlanta’s third-quarter scoring has been the series’ recurring theme. The Dream have outscored the Valkyries 63-35 in third quarters across the first three games, a margin that has repeatedly turned close contests into comfortable ones.

Reese described the moment in personal terms after the win. “When you can do it at the highest level, this is what I live for. This is what the offseason is for. I put the work in for this moment and I’m just happy I can lead the team to a win and we’re feeling good going into (Game 4 on) Saturday,” she said, according to USA Today.

What’s Next

Atlanta carries its 2-1 series lead and Reese’s double-double streak into Game 4 on Saturday. A fourth consecutive double-double would extend a record that currently stands alone in Finals history. The Dream’s frontcourt presence has been central to the series through three games, and Golden State will need to find an answer in the paint to avoid falling into a 3-1 hole.
