The Yankees sign Matt Blake to a 3-year contract extension through 2029. Blake has worked wonders with the Yankees’ pitching staff, which has been great since he took over in 2019. He is 41 now, but was only 34 years old when the Yankees hired him in 2019. He is one of the few associated with the troubled organization who is doing a good job, so this is a good signing.

The new contract for Matt Blake is from 2027 to 2029, after the Yankees sign Matt Blake. One has to wonder: with him signed through 2029, does this mean Yankees manager Aaron Boone will also be in the dugout through 2029? Maybe; they work well together. It is funny that they look similar. Fans boo when Blake comes out of the dugout to speak with the pitcher because they think he is Boone coming to remove the pitcher. Do you think, with Blake now signed until 2029, that Boone will be the manager at least that long?

The Yankees made another good move when they extended pitching coach Matt Blake through the 2029 season. This was another good move after the hiring of Kristen Huss as general manager of the Hudson Renegades. Blake, a diary of a Yankees fan, has done an outstanding job with Yankee pitching.

The Best Thing About Rob Blake

The Yankees starting pitching rotation is comprised of Cam Schlittler, who will probably win the Cy Young Award in the American League, Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Max Fried, David Weathers, Will Warren, Clarke Schmidt, and Luis Gill. Anyone could make those guys look good. The real magic of Rob Blake is how he handles relief pitchers.

Yankees sign Matt Blake, and he is renowned for ‘seeing something’ in players and having them perform at the highest level with that thing. There are two examples from this past year, the season of failure for the Yankees. Brent Headrick started throwing a hard sinker and appeared in 81 games and struck out 98 in 78 and a third innings and pitched to a 2.18 earned run average. He was a reliable relief pitcher for the Yankees, but was obscure this season, having never appeared in more than 17 games for the Yankees and Minnesota Twins.

Another reclamation project for the Yankees, sign Matt Blake, was Paul Blackburn. Blackburn, a failed starting pitcher for the Athletics and the New York Mets, started throwing his sinker more and became a very effective relief pitcher. He had a 1.69 earned run average in 62 games and 85 innings pitched. He did that in the year before he became a free agent, so he is in for a big payday.

This last season was not an isolated incident. Yankees sign Matt Blake, diary of a Yankees fan, turned around the careers of several unsuccessful relief pitchers. Foremost among the guys is Clay Holmes, who became the Yankees closer and has since gone on to be a starting pitcher for the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs.

Conclusion

The Yankees sign Matt Blake to a three-year contract extension. The pitching coach is now signed from 2027 until 2029. Diary of a Yankees fan, this is a good idea, as Blake has a proven history of taking mediocre relief pitchers and making them stars. This is really good for the cash-strapped Yankees, who need these bargain-basement pitchers to be successful. In a very real sense, he makes the organization millions of dollars.
