Trey Kaufman-Renn Kansas Signing

Kansas announced Monday that forward Trey Kaufman-Renn has signed with the program, giving the Jayhawks a 6-foot-9 big man from Purdue with one year of eligibility remaining. The move comes after a Clark County judge granted Kaufman-Renn a preliminary injunction against the NCAA on Oct. 9, 2026, extending his eligibility while his legal case continues, according to Sporting News.

Kaufman-Renn redshirted his first season at Purdue after a knee injury, then played four seasons for the Boilermakers and developed into one of the Big Ten‘s top frontcourt players. The Minnesota Timberwolves selected him with the 59th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, according to Bleacher Report.

The Terms Of The Kansas Signing

The signing is official, per Kansas’s Monday announcement. Kaufman-Renn has already enrolled in classes at the school and practiced with the team for the first time Sunday, Kansas head coach Bill Self said.

“Trey Kaufman-Renn, who had a tremendous career at Purdue, has enrolled in classes, and is practicing with us as of Sunday,” Self said. “He reached the national championship game, the Elite Eight and the Sweet 16 at Purdue and has been extremely well-drilled and well-coached. Even though it’s late in the process, because of his basketball IQ, we think his transition will be quicker than most put in the same circumstance.”

What The Move Means For Kansas And Purdue

Kansas adds a proven interior scorer to a roster that now gains size and experience deep into the preseason. Self’s comment about the timing, calling it “late in the process,” reflects that Kaufman-Renn arrived on campus well after most transfers and incoming players had already settled into fall practice.

Kaufman-Renn played 147 games and started 112 for Purdue, which reached three consecutive Elite Eights and the national championship game during his tenure.

Kaufman-Renn’s Career Numbers

In his final season at Purdue in 2025-26, Kaufman-Renn averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 57.8% from the field across 37 appearances. He was named first-team All-Big Ten in 2025 and earned honorable mention All-American honors.

What’s Next

Kaufman-Renn’s ability to play for Kansas this season depends on the ongoing legal case against the NCAA. The preliminary injunction extended his eligibility while the case continues.
