Seattle entered the NFL as an expansion franchise in 1976, initially playing in the NFC before moving to the AFC West in 1977 and reaching its first AFC Championship Game in 1983 under coach Chuck Knox. The team shifted back to the NFC with realignment in 2002, and coach Mike Holmgren built the Seahawks into consistent division champions, winning four straight NFC West titles from 2004 through 2007 and reaching Super Bowl XL after the 2005 season, a loss to Pittsburgh.

Pete Carroll took over as coach in 2010 and built the "Legion of Boom" defense around quarterback Russell Wilson, winning Super Bowl XLVIII after the 2013 season in a rout of Denver and returning to the Super Bowl the following year in a narrow loss to New England. After Wilson's 2022 trade and Carroll's 2023 departure, coach Mike Macdonald took over in 2024, and the 2025 Seahawks posted the best regular-season record in franchise history en route to a Super Bowl LX title over New England. The Khosla family completed its purchase of the franchise from the Paul Allen estate in September 2026.
