Stephen Curry limped off the court during the Golden State Warriors‘ open practice in San Francisco on Sunday night after appearing to tweak his right knee. The Warriors guard made his way to the locker room without returning, and the team offered no immediate update on the severity of the injury.
Curry was working against reserve guard De’Anthony Melton on the wing when he suffered a misstep on a perimeter move, according to ESPN. He showed visible frustration, banging the basketball on the floor before heading off. The incident came three days before Golden State’s season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.
What The Team Said About The Right Knee Injury
The Warriors have not released a diagnosis or severity assessment following the incident. Coach Steve Kerr had said before practice that the team planned to bring Curry along slowly to protect the knee this season, even though the 38-year-old had received full clearance to practice. No official designation, such as questionable or day-to-day, has been issued for Curry’s status.
The right knee is the same one that limited Curry for much of the 2025-26 season. He missed 27 games over the final two months of that campaign because of what the Warriors described at the time as runner’s knee, according to Bleacher Report.
Curry’s Role And Production Last Season
Curry was available for just half of the 2025-26 season, limited by ankle, quadricep and knee injuries. In the 43 games he did play, he averaged 26.6 points on 46.8% shooting from the field and 39.3% from three-point range, adding 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 30.9 minutes per night. The gap in team performance with and without him was stark: Golden State went 24-19 with Curry in the lineup and 13-26 without him.
