St. Louis unbeaten streak hits 17 in stunning record chase

St. Louis unbeaten streak: St. Louis City SC hosts Aston Villa in a July 2025 club friendly in St. Louis

The St. Louis unbeaten streak reached 17 MLS matches Wednesday night as St. Louis City SC beat the New York Red Bulls 3-0, leaving the club two games shy of the league record. FC Dallas set the MLS regular-season mark of 19 straight matches without a loss in 2010, according to MLSsoccer.com.

The run already is the longest in club history. St. Louis set its previous club record of 16 with a 3-1 win over Toronto FC on Sept. 19, according to Field Level Media.

Where the St. Louis unbeaten streak ranks in MLS history

Only two clubs have put together longer runs within a single MLS season: FC Dallas with 19 matches in 2010 and the Columbus Crew with 18 in 2004, according to beIN Sports. MLSsoccer.com’s record list also credits Columbus with a 19-match run that carried over from 2004 into 2005.

How the St. Louis unbeaten streak was built

The streak includes 12 wins and five draws, and St. Louis has scored in every one of those 17 league matches, according to beIN Sports. Counting all competitions, the club has gone 19 straight matches without a loss, per its match report.

The attack has carried the run. St. Louis has scored three or more goals in eight of its 14 matches since the World Cup break, according to the club.

Simon Becher’s role in the streak

No player has meant more to the run than Simon Becher. He has 10 goal contributions during the unbeaten stretch, with seven goals and three assists, according to beIN Sports, often coming off the bench.

Becher scored his seventh goal in nine league games against Toronto, when Carlo Holse and Tomas Totland also found the net and Alexandru Matan and Conrad Wallem each had two assists, per Field Level Media. He added the second goal Wednesday by pouncing on a Red Bulls giveaway in the 87th minute. Rafael Navarro had opened the scoring in the fifth minute, and Tomas Ostrak finished a rebound in stoppage time, per ESPN.

What the St. Louis unbeaten streak has done for the standings

The win lifted St. Louis (13-6-8) into second place in the Western Conference, ESPN reported, three points behind first-place Vancouver, according to beIN Sports. Goalkeeper Roman Bürki made four saves for his third clean sheet of the season.

Can the St. Louis unbeaten streak reach the record?

Two more league matches without a loss would match Dallas’ 19. The next test comes Sunday, Oct. 11, when St. Louis hosts the LA Galaxy at 7 p.m. CT at Energizer Park, according to the club.
