Takeaways From Spurs’ Win Over Kings

Wembanyama controlled the paint from the opening tip

Wembanyama finished 10 of 18 from the field with four blocks, three steals and a plus-31 rating in 26 minutes, the best mark of any player on the floor. He scored on alley-oop dunks, a tip-in and a 25-foot three-pointer, showing the full range that has defined San Antonio’s start to the season.

San Antonio’s bench and secondary scorers carried the load late

Dylan Harper added 19 points on 8-of-9 free-throw shooting and finished plus-22, while Stephon Castle contributed 19 points and a team-high seven assists. Devin Vassell chipped in 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting, giving the Spurs four players in double figures beyond Wembanyama.

Sacramento couldn’t overcome a brutal shooting night at the line and in fouls

The Kings committed 26 fouls compared to San Antonio’s 15, which let the Spurs convert 33 of 42 free throws against Sacramento’s 13 of 19. Domantas Sabonis finished with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds but was minus-22 for the game, and Zach LaVine shot just 4 of 12 from the field while finishing minus-26.

Player Of The Game: Victor Wembanyama

Wembanyama’s final line read 30 points, 14 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists on 10-of-18 shooting with 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range. His plus-31 rating was the best of any player in the game, and he scored in double figures in every way, from the paint to the perimeter to the free-throw line, where he went 6 of 9.

Spurs Vs Kings By The Numbers

San Antonio shot 48% from the field compared to Sacramento’s 49%, but the Spurs’ 15-of-30 clip from three-point range outpaced the Kings’ 16-of-35 attempt in efficiency. San Antonio also dominated at the free-throw line, making 33 of 42 attempts to Sacramento’s 13 of 19, a 20-point swing that proved decisive. The Spurs won the rebounding battle 46-36, including a 13-7 edge on the offensive glass, while the Kings held a slim 33-28 edge in assists.
