Sean McVay said his assistant coaches will “be better” after video surfaced of them banging on glass and gesturing at Eagles fans during the Rams’ 24-20 comeback win Sunday.

Videos posted on X showed one assistant coach banging on the glass and gesturing at fans below after a Rams touchdown. Fans responded by throwing a cup and a water bottle at the booth’s windows.

Sean McVay On Incident With Fans

McVay said he and his assistant coaches discussed the incident after the game. “We’ll be better in those situations,” McVay said.

McVay said he understands the moment. “You get excited and emotional,” he said, noting he had been in a similar situation calling plays from the booth as Washington’s offensive coordinator.

“We’ll learn from that. We’ll be better. Those fans are really into it, but I know that we want to make sure that we’re representing the class and just the calm steadiness that we want to have while also being emotionally into it,” McVay said. “We did talk about it.”

What It Means

McVay’s comments draw a clear line between the emotion of the moment and the standard he expects his staff to hold. By saying the coaches already discussed it internally, McVay framed this as a closed matter rather than an ongoing distraction.

There has been no word on any disciplinary step from the Rams or the NFL tied to the incident, and McVay’s comments did not identify which assistant coach banged on the glass.

Context: A Wild Comeback

The emotion from the booth matched the swing of the Sean McVay Rams comeback itself. The Rams trailed 20-10 with 8 minutes, 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and Philadelphia’s win probability peaked at 97.4% when the Eagles had the ball at the Los Angeles 2-yard line, according to ESPN Analytics. Next Gen Stats had the Rams’ win probability as low as 3.2% at one point in that final stretch.

Los Angeles answered with touchdowns at the 3:59 and 1:45 marks to escape with a 24-20 victory. McVay’s reaction afterward reflected the whiplash of the finish, stepping into his postgame news conference, he blurted, “You’ve got to be shitting me,” before composing himself for reporters. See how the Rams overcame a questionable penalty earlier in the week.

He described the comeback this way: “You can’t win it until the fourth quarter. And our guys came alive when they did. But I am really proud of this group. I think a lot of teams would have folded in those situations.”

McVay praised the team’s resilience, calling it proof that the Rams can execute under pressure. “Our guys came alive when they did and find a way to make the plays,” he said, according to Yahoo Sports.
