San Diego Padres Right Fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. has gotten off to a strong start this regular season. He continued his stellar start last night on the road against the Houston Astros. He hit a go-ahead solo home run to secure the 3-2 victory.
Tatis Jr. has made Padres franchise history with the second-most home runs(8) in the team’s first 22 regular season games. He trails himself from 2020 and Adrian Gonzalez in 2009 with 9 home runs over that stretch. Tatis Jr. is fourth in the league in batting average, third in home runs, and fourth in OPS. Following previous seasons riddled by injury and a PED suspension, his 2025 start has been a welcome sight. Will he continue his great play for the San Diego Padres?
San Diego Padres Season Summary
San Diego’s start has been spectacular. They hold a 0.5-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the National League West. The Padres have been strong on offense. They are leading the league in batting average, 15th in home runs, 14th in runs scored, and the league leader in OBP. Tatis Jr. is leading the San Diego Padres in every offensive category.
The Padres have also been led by a strong pitching staff. They are second in ERA, third in opposing batting average, and third in WHIP. Closer Robert Suarez is leading the league in saves(9) and Starting Pitcher Nick Pivetta is eighth in ERA and seventh in WHIP. A solid offense and pitching staff have led the San Diego Padres to have a dream start.
Final Thoughts
Tatis Jr. and the Padres return to the diamond tonight to begin a three-game set against the Detroit Tigers. If Tatis Jr. can keep up his level of play, it could be a season to remember for the Padres.
