San Diego Padres Become First MLB Team To 10 Wins

San Diego Padres

With a 2-1 win Wednesday on the road against the Athletics, the San Diego Padres became the first team in Major League Baseball to 10 wins this season. The Padres are 10-3. Even though they are 3-3 over their last 6 games, a 7-0 start set the stage for 10 wins. San Diego lost two games to the Chicago Cubs and on Tuesday against the Athletics. Will the San Diego Padres be able to keep up their high level of play?

San Diego Padres Season Summary

The Padres have been led by a strong offense this year. They are leading the league in batting average, eighth in runs scored, and ninth in Slugging Percentage. San Diego’s offense has been paced by Center Fielder Jackson Merrill. He is hitting .278 and top 20 in RBI.

San Diego’s pitching staff has also been stellar. They are seventh in ERA, 12th in strikeouts, and second in opposing batting average. The Padres have been strong out of the pen with the league’s best bullpen ERA. Starting Pitcher Randy Vasquez has gotten off to a strong start with a 1.72 ERA.

Final Thoughts

The Padres have a day off tomorrow before welcoming the Colorado Rockies to town for a three-game set beginning Friday. Even though San Diego has gotten off to the best start of any MLB team, it will be tough for them to keep pace in the National League West. The Los Angeles Dodgers have assembled one of the best rosters in league history. This has led to Los Angeles being prohibitive favorites to win back-to-back World Series.
