The recent second test of Bangladesh was nothing but brilliant leadership by Rohit Sharma. After the rain-soaked start, which lost the team two days to the weather, it was only his strategic mind that came out and inspired confidence and aggression at the right moment when the team had hit a difficult situation. This match was testimony to his ability to think on his feet and change gears when necessary, a quality that has made him one of the best captains in cricket today. His strategy not only changed the game but also ensured a win for India in the series.
A Game Changer
Photo by Alessandro Bogliari on UnsplashOne of those moments that changed the course of the match was when Rohit Sharma opted for a leg-slip fielder for Bangladesh’s top scorer, Mominul Haque, on the fifth day. That was an intelligent decision, as Mominul was known to play mostly sweep shots. And as soon as Ravichandran Ashwin started bowling to him, KL Rahul was perfectly placed to take the catch. This dismissal was very crucial, as it had a great deal to do with the momentum of the game. Cricketing legend and commentator Sunil Gavaskar praised Rohit’s captaincy and said that this is one fine placement that went a long way in breaking the resistance that Bangladesh had put up.
Rohit Sharma’s leadership does not lie just in making the field placements. His communication skills and his ability to motivate his teammates have been crucial for India. At times of rain delays, he instead talked more of strategy and ensured a good attitude. In fact, in such eventualities, he built resilience among players like Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, as the latter two bagged three wickets each in the second innings. Under Rohit, the team was fighting against the condition of the opponents, who seemed outsmarted in aggressive yet strategic plays.
Good Batting Strike test Catches
The batting performance of the team also reflected effective captaincy by Rohit Sharma, as Yashasvi Jaiswal laid a significant foundation, whereas the veterans Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant provided the finishing touches. Such levels of communication can be inculcated through an excellent captain like Rohit Sharma. His communication with his teammates helped them to express themselves freely, thus providing him with a complete, comprehensive victory. Every player seemed to be on the same page, courtesy of the harmony built by Rohit within the squad.
Conclusion
Rohit Sharma’s captaincy tenure does well for the Indian team in the second Test against Bangladesh. His tactical sagacity blended with the ability to motivate his team resulted in a good victory over a challenging scenario. Now that India is gearing up to face many more grueling tests, it is clearly going to be done under the leadership style of Rohit Sharma, characterized by thoughtful decision-making as well as motivation. Fans and pundits alike are all geared to see how he will shape the team in the coming matches and make every game an event to look forward to.
