Red Bull’s recent problems with its performance have been a cause for concern, however, Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff has said that his team should not be written off. It has been a slippery slope for Red Bull following their early success in 2024, where Verstappen won seven of the first 10 races. Unfortunately, the car as of today has not tasted victory in the last six races that have been conducted and the championship they were leading in has also reduced.
In the Italian Grand Prix held at Monza, Verstappen was in sixth position. This has made it a very close affair with Bottas now leading Lando Norris of McLaren by just 62 points. Also, McLaren is only eight points behind them in the constructors’ championship and there are still eight races left in the year.
Wolff’s Perspective on Red Bull’s Challenges
Toto Wolff acknowledged the unusual nature of Red Bull’s recent struggles but emphasized that the reigning champions should not be written off, he mentioned;
It is really weird. I have no insight obviously but that is not at all the Red Bull at the start of the year – dominant, Wolff said after Sunday’s race at Monza. I think that Max was able to keep it going for a while with his ability, but it seems now that from the sheer results – and that is what I see without understanding or knowing what is going on inside – because it could be a blip, also.
[Monza] was probably one of the worst races that we have seen for many years, to have no pace. But who am I to say that? We had two years where nothing functioned, and it was the same with Ferrari a few races ago.
According to Wolff, he feels that Red Bull is not easy to beat and should not be underestimated. He believes it will bounce back and well perform better in the next performances in other races. This has made McLaren an upcoming team for the constructors’ championship given that they have been experiencing some turmoil lately. Wolff agreed with McLaren’s bounce back and their strength of having two cars that would finish in the points, he added:
So I don’t think you can write them off. They are a formidable team and I’m sure there will be better races, but McLaren is clearly the favourite now for the constructors championship, they have two drivers scoring and I bet Red Bull didn’t expect that at the beginning of the year.
Red Bull has a combination of some amazing and competitive racer that are expert not to give a chance to any other racer to take point. But ups and downs are certainly part of the game. For now, McLaren is in demand and people are now likely to support them to surpass the Red Bull racing team in the constructor championship.

It has added exciting moments to the season such as Ferrari’s victory at Monza which could have been a dream return to form. This was for the sixth different rider in seven races. According to Wolff, what made the new season even more interesting was the growth of performance levels among the strong teams.
