Rickard Rakell scored in the shootout to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena, snapping Pittsburgh’s three-game losing skid. Connor Dewar had the Penguins’ only goal in regulation, and goaltender Arturs Silovs made 24 saves to help close it out.

Dallas forced overtime when Tyler Seguin tipped in a shot from Jason Robertson with 30 seconds left in regulation, erasing a 1-0 deficit the Stars had faced since early in the third period. Jake Oettinger stopped 19 shots for Dallas before the extra session, but the Stars managed nothing in the shootout as Pittsburgh closed it out behind goals from Ben Kindel, Sidney Crosby and Rakell.

Key Moments: How The Penguins Won In The Shootout

Dewar broke the scoreless deadlock at 1:57 of the third period, gliding into the slot and lifting a backhand that deflected in off Dallas defenseman Lian Bichsel’s stick. The goal ended a stretch in which the Stars had gone 206:08 without allowing a goal, the longest such streak in franchise history, and it snapped Oettinger’s personal shutout run at 188:52, the longest of his NHL career.

Seguin answered with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, tipping home Robertson’s shot for his first goal and point in five games this season. The Penguins also had a goal wiped off the board earlier in the night. Kris Letang’s apparent score at 19:34 of the first period was overturned after officials ruled Pittsburgh used a high stick on the puck before it went in off Dallas forward Justin Hryckowian.

With the game tied after regulation and overtime, it went to a shootout. Silovs turned away Robertson in the first round, and Kindel and Crosby both converted for Pittsburgh before Mikko Rantanen missed the net in the fourth round for Dallas. Seguin and Wyatt Johnston scored for the Stars in the skills competition, but Rakell’s goal in the fifth round settled it for the Penguins, according to the Associated Press.
