The New Orleans Pelicans beat the Memphis Grizzlies 135-134 in overtime on Monday at FedExForum, snapping Memphis’s six-game winning streak. Zion Williamson finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Karlo Matkovic matched him with 25 points off the bench as New Orleans improved to 3-4.

Ty Jerome scored 40 points for Memphis, which fell to 6-1 despite shooting 52% from the field. The Grizzlies led by as many as seven, but New Orleans erased it in overtime to win their third straight.

Takeaways From Pelicans’ Win Over Grizzlies

New Orleans survived a wild finish

The two teams traded the lead 16 times in regulation, and neither squad led by more than 10 points at any point. New Orleans outscored Memphis 11-10 in the extra period to seal it, a margin built on efficient free-throw shooting. The Pelicans made 25 of 30 free throws (83%) compared to Memphis’s 22 of 27 (81%), and that edge mattered in a game decided by a single point.

Matkovic delivered a career-caliber scoring night

Matkovic shot 9 of 13 from the field and 5 of 8 from three, scoring 25 points in 29 minutes off the bench. His plus-7 rating was second behind Herbert Jones’s plus-9.

Memphis couldn’t overcome its turnovers

The Grizzlies committed 16 turnovers that New Orleans converted into 21 points. The Pelicans, by contrast, turned the ball over just eight times, and Memphis managed only seven points off those miscues. That 14-point swing in points off turnovers proved decisive in a one-possession finish.

Player Of The Game: Ty Jerome

Jerome scored 40 points on 14-of-22 shooting, adding five rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes for Memphis. It was the most points of any player in the game, but his effort wasn’t enough to offset the Grizzlies’ 16 turnovers and a late defensive letdown in overtime.

Pelicans Vs Grizzlies By The Numbers

Memphis out-shot New Orleans 52% to 48% from the field and 45% to 38% from three, yet still lost. New Orleans forced 16 Memphis turnovers against eight of its own and turned them into 21 points, while Memphis got seven off Pelicans miscues. The Pelicans made 25 of 30 free throws (83%); Memphis made 22 of 27 (81%).

What It Means

The loss snapped Memphis’s six-game win streak. The Grizzlies fell to 6-1, half a game behind Houston in the Southwest Division. New Orleans moved to 3-4 with its third straight win.
