Boston Celtics Point Guard Payton Pritchard was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year on Tuesday night. He beat out Detroit Pistons Shooting Guard Malik Beasley and Cleveland Cavaliers Shooting Guard Ty Jerome to win the prestigious award. What did he accomplish during the regular season to be named the winner?
Peyton Pritchard Season Summary
Pritchard was a shoo-in to win the award when looking at his statistics. He led the league in points off the bench, first in three-pointers off the bench, 1st in bench plus/minus, and fifth in made three-pointers. He finished the regular season averaging 14.3 points and was 30th in the league in three-point percentage.
The Boston Celtics finished the regular season as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Pritchard’s performance played a large role in that. He was a constant performer off the team’s bench and will be a crucial part of a team eyeing back-to-back NBA titles.
Final Thoughts
Pritchard played well in Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs against the Orlando Magic. He scored 19 points on 4-of-shooting from downtown. Boston has the deepest starting lineup in the league. If the guard can keep his level of play, no team will want to face the Celtics over the next two months.
