Patrick Kane became the 50th NHL player to reach the milestone of scoring 500 goals on Thursday night when the Detroit Red Wings beat the Vancouver Canucks, 5-1.

Patrick Kane Becomes Fifth American-Born Player To Reach Milestone

He is the fifth American-born NHL player to reach 500 goals. He joins Mike Modano (561), Keith Tkachuk (538), Jeremy Roenick (513), and Joe Mullen (502). Brett Hull was a dual citizen of the United States, but he was born in Canada, played internationally for the United States, and had 741 goals.

Kane scored his 500th goal on an empty net goal with 3:53 seconds left in the third period. He said after the game, he was relieved to get the goal over with. Normally, during empty net goal situations, he is not on the ice. He got the opportunity to be a part of the empty net goal situation and ended up scoring.

Patrick Kane Making Red Wing History

Kane has 1,369 points, five behind Modano for the U.S.-born mark. Even though he was left off the U.S. Olympic team for the Winter Olympics, he remains a top forward in the NHL. He has 8 goals in 30 games this season. He has missed 15 games because of injury.

He is also part of Red Wings history with 500 goals, joining Gordie Howe, Dino Ciccarelli, Steve Yzerman, Pat Verbeek, and Brendan Shanahan.

Conclusion

Kane started his NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks and was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in 2023. He is a future Hall of Famer with three Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe Trophy in 2013.
