Western Michigan Football Blasted by OSU in a 56-0 Victory

Western Michigan Football was dominated by Ohio State on Saturday.

Well, that was more like it. Ohio State blasted the Western Michigan football team in the second football game of the 2024 season, 56-0. It was a complete victory. The Ohio State football team clicked on all cylinders against an inferior opponent on alumni band day. Maybe Western Michigan was not as bad as Akron. Western Michigan did almost beat Wisconsin, at Wisconsin, last Saturday, but Western Michigan was still no match for Ohio State. Ohio State’s football team had a complete effort, and they were able to play their second-string players in the second half. There were some notable performances on the football field in the game, which are detailed in the next section.

Nevertheless, Ohio State looked every part of the No. 2 college football team in the nation. Ohio State looked very much like a college football national championship contender.

Notable Game 2 Performances

Offensive Line

Even though Donovan Jackson did not play in the football game, the offensive line played much better and did an excellent job in pass protection. As evidenced by Ohio State’s six rushing touchdowns, the offensive line did a much better job than in the first football game of the season.

Will Howard

The transfer Quarterback Will Howard had a much better game this time. This had as much to do with the excellent play of the offensive line and the aggressive play-calling of new Offensive Coordinator Chip Kelly. Howard Started 9 for 9 and finished 18 for 26 for 292 yards and one touchdown. He threw no interceptions and had an accurate game. He exited after 2 1/2 quarters because the Ohio State football team built up such a lead. He gave way to the backups, according to plan.

The Two-Headed Football Monster

The two-headed monster the Ohio State football team has at running back is Quinshon Judkins and Treyvon Henderson. Both had great games against Western Michigan. Their performances had as much to do with the improved run blocking of the offensive line. Judkins was awesome. He carried the ball nine times for 108 yards and two touchdowns. He had an 80-yard touchdown run called back because of a holding penalty. Henderson had 10 carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns. He now has 35 in his Ohio State career.

Total Statistical Dominance

The statistical line from the football game is video game like. Ohio State not only beat the Western Michigan football team 56-0, but they also outgained them 683 yards to 99. The Western Michigan football team had only five yards of offense in the second half. Ohio State had 273 rushing yards, and six rushing touchdowns, belying the great play of the offensive line. The Western Michigan football team had only 28 rushing yards. Ohio State had 410 yards through the air and the Western Michigan football team had only 71. Western Michigan football was completely outclassed.

Fantastic Football Freshmen

Ohio State was so far ahead against the Western Michigan football team that they were able to get some of their young players in, and one is already a star. Jerimiah Smith had five catches for 199 yards and one touchdown. People are talking about him as a dark horse for the Heisman Trophy this year. Julian Sayin also played at quarterback for the first time for Ohio State in the game against the Western Michigan football team.

Sayin was 2 for 2 for 61 yards, including a 55-yard bomb to Tight End Bennett Christenson. James Peoples has a second productive day against the Western Michigan football team with 10 rushes for 55 yards and one touchdown.

Scoring Review

The Ohio State football team is off next Saturday, September 14. This could be an opportunity to prepare or to lose focus. After the bye week, the Ohio State football team plays one more cupcake in Marshall University before starting their 2024 Big Ten conference schedule. In the game against the Western Michigan football team – Henderson, Smith, and Judkins scored touchdowns in the first quarter.

Judkins and Howard scored touchdowns in the second quarter, giving Ohio State a 35-0 lead at halftime. Henderson and Peoples scored touchdowns in the third quarter, and the long pass to Christensen happened in the fourth quarter when Ohio State took its foot off of the gas.
