The Orlando Magic have wasted no time shaping their roster this summer. Following a promising season, the franchise has focused on internal development while strategically adding outside help. They’re one of the few playoff teams with ample flexibility and long-term upside.

Desmond Bane’s arrival via trade headlines the offseason thus far. The Magic also brought back core contributors while maintaining their identity. With stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner leading the charge, Orlando seems ready to take the next step in the Eastern Conference.

Offseason Moves Set the Tone

Orlando’s front office acted swiftly, prioritizing roster continuity and young talent. They re-signed Goga Bitadze, Moritz Wagner and Gary Harris, solidifying key roles. All three add reliable depth and understand head coach Jamahl Mosley’s system well. They also secured franchise pillars for the future, most notably Franz Wagner. He signed a five-year rookie max extension worth $224 million. That move ensures the Magic can build around their star trio for seasons to come.

Jonathan Isaac, often praised for his defense, agreed to a five-year extension. His new deal signals confidence in his ability to stay healthy and contribute. Veteran Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was signed for three years, giving the Magic another proven two-way option. The team’s lone rookie addition was forward Tristan da Silva, picked 18th overall. Da Silva fits their defensive mold and could provide outside shooting and smart playmaking off the bench.

Magic Remaining Questions and Cap Flexibility

Despite several key moves, Orlando’s offseason isn’t quite complete. There’s still a need to address backcourt depth after trading Cole Anthony. Anthony Black and Jett Howard may have more opportunity, but a veteran guard could help stabilize the second unit. With available cap space, The Magic brought in Tyus Jones on a one year $7 million dollar deal.

Mo Wagner, Caleb Houstan and Cory Joseph are notable pending free agents in 2025. Orlando will need to decide whether to extend them or explore alternatives on the market. The Magic currently sit well below the first tax apron. If needed, they could absorb salary via trade or chase another impact free agent before next season.

Final Thoughts

The Orlando Magic didn’t land a marquee free agent this summer, but that’s okay. Their current roster is balanced, deep and anchored by three budding stars who continue to grow.

With a focus on chemistry, internal improvement, and selective additions, Orlando seems poised to rise. The East is wide open, and the Magic have the tools to capitalize now.
