Ohio State has the 5th-ranked 2027 recruiting class

Ohio State has a fantastic 2027 recruiting class, which is ranked fifth overall. With three five-star players in the class and the massive changes in college football, there is a good chance we could see some players from this class playing for the Buckeyes next fall. Recruiting is the lifeblood of college sports programs, so the Buckeyes must be ranked so high.

Right now, there is no running back in the Ohio State recruiting class; one will be added. This is a direct result of the Buckeyes missing out on David Gabriel Georges. Ohio State 2027 Recruiting Class Ranks Fifth

Ohio State has the number five recruiting class for the 2027 football season. This assures the Buckeyes a steady stream of talent entering the program. Also, the top of this class is heavy with defensive line prospects. This is significant because it means defensive line coach Larry Johnson, 74, is by no means too old. Here is the Ohio State 2027 recruiting class.

David Jacobs, 5 Star Defensive End

David Jacobs is so good that he is going to play right away. Both lack ideal length for the position, but he will grow. Nevertheless, he has the ability to compensate with play strength, technique, and effort.

Jamier Brown, 5 Star Wide Receiver

Jamier Brown should also play right away, even though the Ohio State wide receiver room is crowded. Brown is an elite athlete who does damage with the ball in his hands. He has some high school eligibility concerns that may limit his playing time this year, but all that means is that he will not get hurt.

Marcus Fakatou, 5 Star Defensive End

This is another player who could play right away for Ohio State. The Buckeyes like to use a rotation on the defensive line, so that makes immediate participation for Marcus virtually guaranteed. He is tall, at 6-foot-7.

Caden Moss, 4 Star Inside Offensive Lineman

Ohio State is very deep across the offensive line, but will suffer several 2026 graduations, so Moss could play. Moss is a huge offensive lineman from Mississippi.

Kellen Wymer, 4 Star Inside Offensive Lineman

Moss will be joined by Wymer on the offensive line for the Buckeyes. He has great movement skills, and he is already very big. He is very likely to get to the second level or pull. He may also play some right away.

Wyatt Smith, 4 Star Defensive Lineman

He is tall at 6-foot-5 and will likely fill out some and is very likely to join the defensive line rotation for the Buckeyes. This is the third defensive lineman in this class.

Prince Goldsby, 4 Star Linebacker

Ohio State plays only two linebackers and has several players who will be back next season. Goldsby is likely to play a backup role on the team next year. He is skilled, however, and will slot into the linebacker rotation for the team, most likely, in the season after next.

Karlos May, 4 Star Defensive Lineman

May is yet another defensive lineman in the recruiting class, the fourth so far. He is from Alabama. He is short and heavy and slots in as a defensive tackle for the Buckeyes in the future.

Quinton Cypher, 4 Star Linebacker

The second linebacker in the class, Cypher is also likely to be a bench player in his freshman season. After this year, he could play. Linebackers Coach James Laurinaitis is doing a fantastic job.

Brady Edmunds, 4 Star Quarterback

Edmunds is a polarising player who almost broke his commitment to Ohio State to attend UCLA. He has a rocket arm, but mobility concerns could limit him. With a 5-Star quarterback in the 2028 class, he could get leapfrogged.

Eli Johnson, 4 Star Safety

The Buckeyes went into Texas and stole this talented safety. Since Caleb Downs was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, a couple of players will graduate following this season. That may allow Johnson to play right away.

Deontay Malone, 4 Star Cornerback

This player from the state of Ohio highlights how college football recruiting has changed. It used to be the case that the Buckeyes got all the players in Ohio. That is not so anymore, but the Buckeyes do grab players from states like Texas.

Jimmy Kalis, 4 Star, Offensive Lineman

Kalis is another big body for the Buckeye offensive line. As a four-star, he will most likely be on the second string next season. He is from Central Catholic in Pittsburgh. He is 6-foot-7.

Davis Seamon, Mason Wilt, and Brody McNeal Four Star Offensive lineman

These three fit with Kalis as depth pieces on the offensive line for Ohio State. Neither is likely to play this year, but they could reach the second string next season. With these three commitments, the Buckeyes have a full offensive line in this recruiting class. McNeal is a 3-Star.

Jaden Carey, 4 Star Cornerback

From Florida, Carey is just the second cornerback in this recruiting class. The relative lack of depth in the Buckeye secondary means if Carey has a strong training camp, he could play.

Jordan Donahoo

This wide receiver from Florida is a three-star recruit. As this is wide receiver university, this player may never see the field for the Buckeyes.

Angelo Smith, 3 Star Safety

Smith is the brother of wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Because of that, the lowest-rated player in the recruiting class may overachieve. He is the second safety in the class and moves into a sparsely populated secondary.
