Ohio State has 2 Reasons for Optimism in its next two games. Two freshmen have never started the rivalry game against Michigan. Ohio State: 2 reasons for optimism begin this week, and exist even though the Buckeyes have a bye and they need to start a backup quarterback when they travel to Los Angeles to play USC.

Ohio State has 2 Reasons for Optimism: USC must travel to Wisconsin to play the Badgers this Saturday. Their defense is also very poor. Ohio State next hosts Oregon. That looked like a challenging game, but Oregon has struggled. Most likely because their coordinators are new. Also, The Game between Ohio State and Michigan has never been started by two freshmen. That rivalry dates back to 19198. Do you find this hard to beleive?

There is a lot of negativity surrounding the Ohio State football team with a likely season-ending injury to their starting quarterback, Julian Sayin. The team is likely to start freshman Luke Fahey at quarterback. He looked bad when he came in relief of Sayin with about eight minutes left in the game at Indiana. However, Ohio State has 2 reasons to be optimistic against its opponents the next two weeks.

USC Must Play at Wisconsin on October 24

Ohio State has 2 Reasons for Optimism. The first is that its next opponent, USC, must play at Wisconsin this Saturday, Oct. 24. Think of it: USC has to fly to Wisconsin, play a tough game against a tough opponent, and then fly back across the country to Los Angeles. Wisconsin is no pushover; they have been good this season. Luke Fickell’s team is 3-0 at home and 5-2 overall. They also play a bruising brand of football. The Trojans could be tired and battered when they take on Ohio State.

One thing is for certain: the USC defense is bad. They rank 95th in yards per game given up. If Luke Fahey is going to be able to pick apart a defense, it could be this one. Look for him to run a lot, maybe on run-pass options, as the team will try to take advantage of his athleticism. Ohio State offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is going to put Fahey in a position to be successful, and they could have a field day with the porous USC defense. Ohio State has 2 Reasons for Optimism, maybe more.

Oregon has Two New Coordinators

Ohio State then hosts Oregon. Ohio State has 2 Reasons for Optimism; this is another one. This part of the schedule for the Buckeyes was earmarked as the most difficult portion of the Ohio State schedule. However, it might be the case that the Oregon Ducks are not as good as they have been in the past. Chris Hampton is the new defensive coordinator for Oregon, and Drew Mehringer is their new offensive coordinator. Both of these guys were hired from within.

Oregon ranks near the bottom of both offensive and defensive statistics. This is the reason why the Ducks have struggled. The team has looked bad. There is good reason to expect Ohio State to win this game, even if the team starts a new quarterback in freshman Luke Fahey.

Freshmen Starting the Ohio State and Michigan Game

Speaking of Luke Fahey, if he reamians the starting quarterback for Ohio State for the duration of the season, he will start the final game of the regular season against Michigan. Meanwhile, Tommy Carr came in to relieve Bryce Underwood. If he takes the starting job, he may, because Underwood has been awful, start for the rest of the season. He will start against Ohio State. Two freshmen have never started against each other in this rivalry that dates back to 1919.

Conclusion: Yet Another Reason to be Optimistic

If you were going to start a freshman quarterback, like Ohio State is going to have to, you would want to have a bye week coming up. That is the case, as the Buckeyes are idle on Saturday. You would want your first opponent to have a porous defense, as USC does. Then you would want your second opponent to be much worse than they were supposed to be. Ohio State has 2 Reasons for Optimism coming up, despite the injury to their quarterback.
