Ohio State Day 2 Of Training Camp: McCuin Emerges
Ohio State just had its first two days of Day Training Camp (Day 3 was Saturday, August 8). There has already been some big news, like incoming super-freshman Legend Bey getting suspended for violating team rules. However, there is football being played, and we are learning some things about the Buckeyes.
In the first two days of Ohio State football training camp, we learned three important things. First, it seems the Buckeyes may have their number three, or even number two, wide receiver. At issue for the Buckeyes is who is going to play on the offensive line. We have some early line combinations. Finally, who is Jay Timmons?
Ohio State Training Camp Day 2
There were three big stories to emerge on the second day of Ohio State football camp. We might be getting some early indications of who may start for the top-ranked team in the nation. Here are the three stories.
Devin McCuin Looks Great
Ohio State has a clear number one wide receiver in Jeremiah Smith. However, there is a question of who will be the second- and third-leading wide receivers for the Buckeyes. Many people think incumbent Brandon Inness could get the number two job. There is also some thought that freshman Chris Henry Jr. might get the number two job. Much has yet to be decided.
However, Devin McCuin is the transfer from the University of Texas-San Antonio. He caught multiple deep throws from quarterback Julian Sayin. He also had a toe-tapping touchdown. Ohio State is looking for a serious threat to replace drafted Carnell Tate. McCuin could be that guy.
The Buckeyes have a crowded wide receiver room, so this battle has several contestants and may persist all the way until the season starts. McCuin took most of the first-team reps at wide receiver alongside Jeremiah Smith and Brandon Inniss during team drills on Friday. That seems like the starting trio now. However, Chris Henry Jr., Kyle Parker, Brock Boyd, and Jerquaden Guilford are also in the mix for spots in the receiver rotation.
Offensive Line Combinations
An important consideration for the Buckeyes is who will start on their offensive line. They were a dominant unit in the first twelve games of the season last year; however, they were dominated by Indiana and Miami in the last two games of the season. They do have a lot of experienced players coming back, more than ninety previous starts; however, the question is whether those guys are any good.
Here are the offensive line combinations during the first two days of camp, and note: the starting position battle is probably between Daniels, Moore, and Padilla. It will be interesting to see how this plays out:

Who Is Jay Timmons?
Jay Timmons is a five-star freshman cornerback who started at the Nickleback position. Earl Little Jr., a redshirt senior, said of Timmons, “He came in making plays off the bat. He’s there mentally as well as physically. I commend him, and I tip my hat to him. He’s gonna be a great player for us.”
Conclusion
One can learn a great deal about a football team from how they practice. So far, Ohio State. These three things are big questions for the Buckeyes, and it seems there is some early resolution to them. It is also the case that running back Isaiah West has come into camp looking like a monster. His emergence alongside Bo Jackson would be important for the Buckeyes, as they like to have two options at running back.
