Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki will miss 2-4 weeks because of an upper-body injury, according to NHL.com. The injury ends his 546-game ironman streak, the second-longest active run in the NHL, and marks the first game he will miss since making his debut in the 2019-20 season.

Suzuki last played Tuesday in a 4-3 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks, recording a goal and an assist across 21:03 of ice time. He has 12 points on five goals and seven assists through nine games this season.

Suzuki’s Injury And Timeline

Suzuki’s 546-game ironman streak is the second-longest active in the NHL behind Brent Burns (1,017 games) and ranks as the 20th longest in league history. The streak began at the start of his NHL career in the 2019-20 season, and no specific return date beyond the 2-4 week window has been announced.

Impact On Montreal

Suzuki enters the layoff coming off a career-best 101-point season in which he won the Selke Trophy as the NHL’s top defensive forward, finishing with 29 goals and 72 assists. His absence removes Montreal’s leading two-way forward for at least the next two to four weeks and forces the Canadiens to lean on secondary scoring to maintain production.

What’s Next For The Canadiens

Montreal visits the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday at 8 p.m. ET, the first game Suzuki will miss in his career. Any update on his recovery timeline within the reported 2-4 week window is expected to come from the team as the season progresses.
