The NHL unveiled Hometown Remix uniforms for all 32 teams on Monday, launching a leaguewide alternate jersey program built to reflect the fans, fabric and culture of each franchise’s city. The rollout arrives three months after the league first announced the initiative in August, with teams set to debut the new looks on the ice over the coming weeks.
The uniforms come with accompanying replica jerseys and other apparel, continuing a stretch of specialty jersey programs since Reverse Retro, the last major promotion of this kind, ran under former uniform supplier Adidas in 2020 and 2022.
The Main Development
Hometown Remix marks the first major alternate uniform initiative since Fanatics became the NHL‘s official uniform supplier ahead of the 2024-25 season, a deal that runs through 2035. The designs took shape over a two-year collaboration between the league, Fanatics and each individual club, according to NHL.com.
Teams began teasing the designs on Oct. 21 with cipher-style hints before the Nov. 2 reveal. The Edmonton Oilers’ puzzle decoded to “Oil Country After Midnight,” one of the few specific team names tied to a design teaser so far. The New York Rangers did not take part in that initial cipher drop, according to Bleacher Report.
Brian Jennings, the NHL’s senior executive vice president and chief partnerships and club strategy officer, said the program stands out among the league’s recent business initiatives. “Hometown Remix represents the most exciting initiative our team has designed and delivered with our partners since we hit the ice with the NHL in 2024,” Jennings said. “What makes this program so special is the collaboration with each club and together leaning into the history, culture, fabric and identity of every city and fan base to make sure these felt as authentic and personal as possible.”
What It Means
Dom Fillion, Fanatics’ vice president of creative design, framed the jerseys as an extension of the sport’s identity. “Few symbols in sports carry the history, pride, and emotional connection of an NHL sweater,” Fillion said. “Together with Fanatics and our Clubs, we’ve created designs that are rooted in local identity and tell a story about the cities and fans they represent.”
Los Angeles Kings chief revenue officer said clubs are mandated to wear their Hometown Remix uniforms at least seven times during the season, though the requirement varies by team. The Washington Capitals will wear theirs 11 times in 2026-27, according to NHL.com, exceeding that league floor.
Washington Capitals Design And Background
The Capitals’ version draws from what the team calls an unforgettable era of Capitals hockey that culminated in the franchise’s first Stanley Cup Final appearance, reworked through what the club describes as a distinctly Washington, D.C., lens. The design also pulls from the region’s natural beauty and iconic architecture.
Amanda Tischler, the Capitals’ senior vice president of marketing, said the jersey ties the franchise’s past to its home city. “The Capitals’ Hometown Remix design draws inspiration from an unforgettable era of Capitals hockey that culminated in the team’s first Stanley Cup Final appearance, while being remixed through a distinctly Washington, D.C., lens,” Tischler said. “The result is a jersey that honors where we’ve been while celebrating what makes Capitals hockey uniquely Washington.”
As part of the launch, the Capitals recognized a fan through their Hometown Hero program for making a positive impact in the community. That fan will receive a team-signed Hometown Remix jersey and four game tickets, including participation in a ceremonial puck drop.
What’s Next
Several teams have set debut dates for their Hometown Remix uniforms. The Buffalo Sabres debut theirs Wednesday, Nov. 4, against the Ottawa Senators, followed by the New York Islanders on Thursday, Nov. 5, against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Capitals debut their design Saturday, Nov. 7, against the Florida Panthers at Capital One Arena.
The St. Louis Blues and Winnipeg Jets are both scheduled to debut their alternates on Nov. 17, with St. Louis hosting the Anaheim Ducks and Winnipeg facing the Senators. Debut dates and specific design details for the remaining teams have not been announced.
