New York Mets Paul Blackburn Sidelined For Remainder Of 2024

Paul Blackburn is out for the rest of the year.

New York Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza announced earlier today that Starting Pitcher Paul Blackburn is done for the remainder of the 2024 season with a spinal fluid leak. Blackburn was initially placed on the IL on August 25 with a bruised hand after being hit by a comebacker. The injury woes continued for him as he was placed back on the IL on September 14 with a spinal fluid leak. This injury ultimately ended his season. Blackburn had a respectable 2024 campaign. He went 5-4 with a 4.66 ERA. How will New York fare without him this postseason?

Paul Blackburn Career Summary

Paul Blackburn made his MLB debut in 2017 as a member of the Oakland Athletics. He spent the entirety of his career in Oakland before being dealt to the New York Mets at this season’s trade deadline. He made his lone All-Star appearance in 2022 with Oakland. He has a career record of 22-28 with a 4.85 ERA.

Blackburn Out For Critical Part Of Season

Paul Blackburn’s team will face an important Game 2 tonight on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers. The New York Mets are up 1-0 in the Wild Card Round following a back-and-forth victory last night. Blackburn had never made the MLB Playoffs in his career, and unfortunately, his injury will keep him out of this year’s playoffs as well. The Mets had a strong starting rotation in the regular season, but Paul Blackburn did not contribute much to that. He was 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA during his tenure in New York. New York is looking to advance in the MLB Playoffs and will have to do so without the services of Blackburn.
