How the Study Was Conducted
The Grueling Truth, a sports website, surveyed 3,000 U.S.-based MLB fans in March 2026. The Grueling Truth’s statistics were established on an average of 60 years of a professional baseball fan’s fandom over the course of a lifetime.
The survey respondents were asked about their favorite MLB team, how many hours per week they spend talking about their MLB team, and which MLB player they talk about the most. The survey respondents’ weekly averages were converted into annual figures and lifetime estimates, with the latter based on an assumed 60-year span.
Of the survey respondents, 63% identified as male, 36% identified as female, and 1% identified as non-binary. The average age was 42.2 years.
