Los Angeles Clippers guard Max Strus suffered a right foot injury in his team debut Sunday and did not return to the preseason game. Strus got hurt making a cut in the first quarter of Sunday’s preseason game against the Golden State Warriors and did not return, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.
The injury came in Strus’ debut with the Clippers after a summer trade sent him to Los Angeles from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He limped off the floor on what appeared to be a non-contact play, according to Sports Illustrated.
What The Team And Sources Said About The Max Strus Injury
The Clippers have not issued a formal designation, but sources indicate Strus is expected to be sidelined at least four weeks. CBS Sports reported Sunday night that Strus would not return to the preseason game due to the right foot issue. The injury draws an uncomfortable parallel to last season, when Strus suffered a Jones fracture that cost him the first 67 games with Cleveland.
Who Replaces Strus In The Clippers’ Rotation
Keaton Wagler figures to see an expanded role with Strus sidelined, according to CBS Sports. The timing complicates an already thin wing group for Los Angeles. Brandon Ingram, acquired by the Clippers earlier in the offseason, is also dealing with a foot injury. With both wings sidelined, the Clippers’ depth behind their returning core will be tested immediately.
Season Context: Why Strus Matters To The Clippers
Los Angeles acquired Strus to add shooting and wing depth to its rotation. He was traded from Cleveland in a multi-team deal that brought Peyton Watson to the Cavaliers, who now projects as their starting small forward.
What’s Next For Strus And The Clippers
The Clippers are expected to provide an update on Strus’ status after further evaluation. Los Angeles continues its preseason schedule before the regular season begins.
