Mason Miller attributed his blown save Sunday to poor command rather than pitch-tipping. His ninth-inning trouble allowed Milwaukee to beat San Diego 4-3 and take a 2-0 lead in the National League Division Series.
Mason Miller’s three walks open the door
Miller threw 21 strikes in 40 pitches over two innings. He walked Christian Yelich, Sal Frelick and Gary Sánchez in the ninth before Jackson Chourio delivered a two-run, game-ending single.
Online footage prompted speculation about whether Milwaukee could identify his pitches. Padres manager Craig Stammen emphasized the team’s daily monitoring process rather than confirming a tell, according to the Associated Press report. Brewers manager Pat Murphy denied that his hitters knew the pitches in advance.
Padres return home facing elimination
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Petco Park. San Diego needs a win to extend the best-of-five series.
