Manchester United reportedly gears up for a transfer battle with Liverpool over Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in 2025. The 24-year-old French international has had an impressive start to the La Liga season, featuring in eight matches for the Spanish giants.
Still early in his career, Tchouameni has already secured several prestigious titles with Real Madrid, including La Liga, the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, and the FIFA Club World Cup. In addition to his club successes, Tchouameni has also made a mark on the international stage, winning the UEFA Nations League with France in 2021.
As a key player in Real Madrid’s midfield, he plays a vital role in the team’s structure, supporting high-profile attackers like Kylian Mbappe. However, rumors have started circulating that his time at the Bernabeu could be coming to an end.
Manchester United and Liverpool Enter Yet Another Race
According to reports from Spanish outlet Todos Fijaches, Manchester United is interested in securing Tchouameni’s services in the January or summer transfer window of 2025. Despite signing Manuel Ugarte in the summer, the Red Devils are still looking for midfield reinforcements to strengthen their squad, particularly after a challenging start to the season.
Liverpool and Arsenal also monitor the situation, making it a competitive race to sign the talented Frenchman. Real Madrid is said to value Tchouameni at around £67 million, with a move possibly on the cards after three years in Spain.
Manchester United’s recent performances have raised concerns, and their struggles in the Premier League this season have been well-documented. After seven matches, United sits in 14th place with just eight points, a disappointing 2024-25 campaign start. Erik ten Hag’s side has faced numerous challenges, and despite making several high-profile signings in the summer, including Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, the team has yet to find its rhythm.
Manchester United’s Woeful Start to the Campaign
In a recent goalless draw against Aston Villa, Ugarte was left on the bench, while Christian Eriksen partnered with Kobbie Mainoo in midfield. The lack of cohesion and attacking threat has been evident, and Manchester United is reportedly determined to make additional signings to turn their season around. Securing a player like Tchouameni could provide the stability and creativity needed in their midfield to help them recover from their poor start.
While Real Madrid will be reluctant to let such a promising player leave, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal are all expected to make a strong push to sign Tchouameni when the opportunity arises.
Manchester United is searching for its long-lost form. The Red Devils are currently on a mission to re-establish their pride and royalty in the English competition. The ‘Erik ten Hag Era’ has yet to produce the desired results, and it is believed that it will do so soon. The wait is still on amid the talks that Ten Hag might be sacked.
