Legend Bey Commits To Ohio State

Legend Bey commits to Ohio State.
North Forney quarterback Legend Bey attends the Ohio State football game against Penn State at Ohio Stadium on Nov. 1, 2025.

Legend Bey, a 4-star running back and wide receiver, committed to Ohio State on December 23. Stars are awarded to recruits on a scale of 1-5. Thousands are rated by national recruiting services. Bey, aptly named, is so good that he single-handedly improved the Ohio State 2026 recruiting class national ranking from sixth to fifth.

The recruitment of this wide receiver was the most unique saga in the history of college football recruiting. In a nutshell, he was committed by his mother to Tennessee, but switched to Ohio State on the 23. Do you think Bey will be a good college football player?

The Strange Recruitment Of Legend Bey

What a long, strange trip it was. Bey is finally going to become a Buckeye. He originally committed to Tennessee in June, but he flipped to Ohio State in November. Then, on December 3, his mother committed him to Tennessee. He could not commit to a college himself because he was 17. He did not turn 18 until Christmas Eve, and then he flipped back to Ohio State.

This strange episode could become less unique as college football recruiting has changed. Everyone agrees that this saga was the strangest they have ever seen. However, college football players are now like professionals. Because of the fickle nature of players going to the highest bidder, what is to stop them from changing schools every year? They will go to the highest bidder. In fact, they could switch their commitment multiple times before each season.

Bey’s commitment to Ohio State caps a week-long drama. His recruitment made national news and was a big deal among those who follow college football recruiting. It is bad news when a recruit’s family gets involved, but this is something we will likely see with increasing frequency in the seasons to come. He was highly sought after, and from Texas, where high school football is big business. It seems that has played out with this recruit, and it is a safe bet we have not heard the last from Bey.

Legend Bey In the 2026 Ohio State Class

Bey is the number 175 recruit in the 2026 high school recruiting class. He joins one other running back (Favour Akih) and four other wide receivers (Chris Henry, Jerquadin Gulford, and Brock Boyd) in the now Twenty-Eight-man Ohio State recruiting class. He raised the Ohio State class from being ranked sixth nationally to fifth nationally. He is expected to be the last player in the Ohio State recruiting class. His addition to the Ohio State class is important.

This is the seventh consecutive year Ohio State has finished with a top-five recruiting class. It is second only to Alabama’s 19 in a row. The Ohio State class in the 2026 season is behind the aforementioned Alabama, Oregon, USC, and Notre Dame. This is important because the lifeblood of college football teams is their recruiting success. The excellent recruiting classes explain why Alabama has been so good for so long, and the recent success of Ohio State explains why the Buckeyes have been so good recently.

Conclusion

The strange recruitment of Bey is probably an indication of things to come. With the influence of money in college football, athletes may ‘flip’ multiple times a year. The fact about Bey is that he adds a 28th player to the Ohio State recruiting class. According to 247 Sports, Bey is the 175th national recruit. He gives Ohio State a versatile weapon and will almost certainly play as a freshman, so you will see him play next season for the Buckeyes.
