Las Vegas Raiders Fans: It’s Not Time to Panic

Las Vegas Raiders

If you’re a proud member of “Raider Nation,” then you’re upset about how the Las Vegas Raiders started the season. But it’s not time to panic yet. Being pessimistic seems to be a rite of passage for Raiders fans at this point. It usually follows the extreme optimism that is injected into the fanbase at the start of every training camp. Despite how rough week one was, there is still hope for this season.

They Always Struggle Week One

Although the Las Vegas Raiders went 5-4 in week one during the Derek Carr era(2014-2022), they have had a surprisingly bad record since 1996. Since 1996, the Raiders are now 10-19 in week one. This past week featured their lowest points scored since they were shut out 27-0 by the San Diego Chargers in the 2006 home opener.

Similarly, that season started with a game against the Chargers followed by a road game in Baltimore. The big difference is this isn’t the pitiful “Bed and Breakfast” 2006 Raiders who were doomed from the start. This is a Las Vegas Raiders team that entered this season with momentum from last season, and there’s still plenty to be enthusiastic about.

Brock Bowers Is Legit

Brock Bowers showed a lot of promise in his debut. He led the Las Vegas Raiders in receiving with six catches for 58 yards. The only thing that was missing from his debut was his first career touchdown, but that might be coming sooner rather than later.

He showed explosiveness catching passes, with his most impressive play coming on a corner route where he managed to get wide open with nobody covering him. If Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy can continue scheming around Davante Adams and Bowers in the passing game, the offense will explode. Bowers has superstar potential off the bat and needs to be focused on in this offense.

It’s Still Extremely Early

It’s also way too early to push panic buttons. It sucks, but the offense didn’t ever get a chance to play fully together at any point in the offseason. Kolton Miller and other key players like Adams missed time due to injuries or personal reasons and that stopped them from getting valuable practice time.

It’s going to take time to build chemistry. It’s frustrating because you wish that those players were able to walk onto the field fully in sync, but that’s rarely the case. The Las Vegas Raiders have a new system with Getsy and a new starting quarterback with Gardner Minshew who just won the job.

‘AP’ Will Use This As Motivation

One thing about Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce is he is a great motivator. It’s never great to lose your opener, but there were several teachable moments for everybody. Using this as material to get everybody united and focused is something that should happen.

Pierce had his own mistakes on Sunday that negatively affected the outcome. At the same time, he’s a first-year head coach and will learn. It’s frustrating for “Raider Nation,” but to quote the great American poet Axl Rose; “all we need is a little Patience.”

At The Same Time, It Only Gets Tougher

Last week was a very winnable game which adds to the frustration. Next week, the Las Vegas Raiders have to play a motivated Baltimore Ravens team in their home opener. Things only get tougher for the Las Vegas Raiders and they need to get everybody in sync. Adding to the difficulties are the injuries to Tyree Wilson and Malcolm Koonce. The defense is the strength of this time as Pierce has said. Regardless, they will hopefully be up for the challenge next Sunday.
