  • Time: 7 p.m. EDT
  • Venue: Rogers Place, Edmonton, Alberta

How Seattle opened its season

The Kraken are 1-0-0 after a 6-1 win at Calgary on Thursday. Goalie Joey Daccord stopped 24 of 25 shots and was perfect until Ryan Strome scored with 3:25 left, CBS Sports reported.

Jordan Eberle, Vince Dunn and Freddy Gaudreau scored in a three-goal first period, according to NHL.com. Dunn and Jared McCann each had three points. Forwards Jake O’Brien and Mackie Samoskevich are out with lower-body and upper-body injuries, respectively. Our Kraken vs. Flames preview covered that opener.

What Edmonton brings to the matchup

The Oilers are 1-0-1 after beating Vancouver 9-7 on Thursday, according to NHL.com. Connor McDavid had five points, and Leon Draisaitl scored twice. Edmonton lost its opener 6-5 in overtime at home Tuesday and has scored 14 goals in two games.

Defense is the question. The Oilers allowed seven goals to a Canucks team that trailed 8-2 at one point, and their injury list includes Jason Dickinson, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and goalie Frederik Andersen, according to FOX Sports. Read more in our Oilers-Canucks recap.

Key matchup to watch

Daccord’s sharp start meets two of the league’s top scorers. McDavid and Draisaitl drove Edmonton’s offense Thursday, and Seattle needs another strong night from its goalie to slow them down. Starting goalies for Saturday had not been confirmed at the time of writing.
