While working to fight through a screen, he ran into junior forward Trey Kaufman-Renn. It appeared that he wound up hitting Kaufman-Renn below the belt as well as in the hand as the referees went to the monitor to review the play.
The broadcast crew was thinking that this call was going to be a common foul or possibly a flagrant one foul. However, the referees indicated that they ruled it a flagrant two, which is an automatic ejection. The Wisconsin Badgers lost a key rotational piece for the remainder of the game as they are in hostile territory in the Big Ten Conference right now. Kamari McGee finished the game with four points, one rebound, and one assist off the bench while making his only shot attempt and going 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Kamari McGee provides a lot of quality minutes off the bench throughout the season and has been one of the most prolific shooters as he has a 51.7/55.4/84.6 shooting split this year in his most productive season since joining the Wisconsin Badgers as their sixth man. The Wisconsin Badgers are going to need to step up as they entered Saturday’s action with a 19-5 (9-4 Big Ten) record and sit just two games behind the Michigan Wolverines for the top spot in the Big Ten Conference right now.
The Wisconsin Badgers were a third seed in the South Region in the first bracket preview that was released Saturday afternoon as well. It will be interesting to see how the team continues to look against quality competition. For this game, however, they will need to find answers without Kamari McGee helping as a veteran with experience off the bench.
