The Jed York suspension is official. The NFL suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six games and fined him $500,000 on Friday for violating its personal conduct policy after his arrest in Ohio in August.
York already has missed the first three games of the season, and those count toward the penalty. He can return to the team’s facilities on Tuesday, Oct. 20, the day after the 49ers play the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.
What the Jed York suspension means for the schedule
York missed the season opener in Australia against the Los Angeles Rams, along with the home games against the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals. He is not allowed to attend a game until Oct. 25, when the 49ers visit the Atlanta Falcons. His first permitted home game is Nov. 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders, per the ESPN report and other coverage.
The suspension and fine are the only discipline the league has announced. York has been the 49ers’ chief executive since 2008.
What happened in Ohio
York was arrested Aug. 23 in East Palestine, Ohio, in a prostitution sting. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
He was charged with two misdemeanors, engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. Prosecutors reduced the prostitution count to disorderly conduct, and York pleaded no contest to both charges the next day. A judge sentenced him to one day in jail, with credit for time already served, and ordered him to pay $1,150 in fines.
York’s response
York said he accepts the ruling. “Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full,” he said. “This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility. What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family.”
He also said leading the 49ers “is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly.”
