Jazz Chisholm Exits Game with Injury vs. Baltimore Orioles

The New York Yankees have been off to a great start despite injuries across the board, but second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. appeared to suffer a rib injury in the top of the first inning of Tuesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. Let’s take a deeper dive into what exactly happened as little information is known at the time of writing and this article will be updated when more information becomes available.

Jazz Chisholm has gotten off to a slower start than expected at the plate and was gearing up to have a good at-bat in the top of the first inning against veteran right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson and the Baltimore Orioles. However, while taking a pitch in the dirt, the second baseman would grimace and the trainer as well as manager Aaron Boone would come out to check on him while he attempted to stretch it out.

He would remain at the plate and finish the at-bat, which was a little slap hit over the first baseman’s head and into the right field corner for a triple. Chisholm’s swing looked to bother him a bit and he would be pulled after continuing to be in pain after sliding head-first into third base. He would be replaced by Pablo Reyes and no word has come out about his injury. He has posted a .714 OPS with seven home runs, 17 RBI, 17 runs scored, and six stolen bases on seven attempts while playing an excellent brand of defense at second base.

UPDATE: After the game, manager Aaron Boone said Chisholm will have testing done on his right oblique during Thursday’s off-day. He said there is some concern that it could result in a trip to the Injury List, but Chisholm said he feels “fine” after the game.
