The Seattle Seahawks ruled out running back Jadarian Price for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a chest injury he initially suffered in Week 2 and re-aggravated in Wednesday’s practice. Coach Mike Macdonald announced the decision Friday, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson.

What the Seahawks said about Jadarian Price

Price did not practice Thursday or Friday, and Macdonald said he does not have a timeline for the rookie’s return. “By no means is this JD’s fault or anything like that,” Macdonald said, according to ESPN. “This is just what happens in football.

Unfortunately, injuries happen. He can’t control these things. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do since he got here.”

Macdonald added that Price “has a great future” and will “play great football” for Seattle once he’s healthy. The Seahawks also listed safety Ty Okada and linebacker Chazz Surratt (calf) as questionable for Sunday, while Julian Love (calf) is expected to play after a full practice Friday.

Who replaces him in Seattle’s backfield

Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani are set to handle the bulk of the carries against the Chargers. Wilson has totaled 109 scrimmage yards on 32 touches this season, while Holani has 102 yards on 21 touches. Velus Jones Jr. is the top practice-squad candidate for an elevation, something Seattle has done twice already this season, per ESPN.

Zach Charbonnet, the team’s 2025 co-starter, is not yet available. He was designated to return to practice Thursday from the physically unable to perform list but was limited in both sessions this week, per CBS Sports. Charbonnet remains on PUP and must miss at least one more game while rehabbing a torn ACL suffered in the NFC Divisional Round.

Season context

Price, the 32nd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, started all three of Seattle’s games this season but has struggled to find a rhythm. He has 119 rushing yards on 28 carries and 21 receiving yards on four catches, with no touchdowns. He was briefly benched last week against the Washington Commanders after losing his second fumble in as many weeks, a 33-31 loss for Seattle.

What’s next

The Seahawks host the Chargers on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. Macdonald said the team has a “good plan” with Wilson and Holani leading the backfield, and another update on Price’s status is expected as Seattle approaches Week 5.
