Palat played poorly for the Devils and Islanders and makes $6 million a year. Given his play and high salary, he was a candidate to get bought out by the team, but that window has closed (today), so expect Palat to be a very expensive fourth-line player.

The Islanders could struggle this season. Just Tuesday, ‘The Athletic’ ranked the top two centers projected on the team as the 26th best in the NHL. Bo Horvat is the top-line center, but Brayden Schenn is slated to be the second-line center. Mat Barzal, who is a highly skilled player who sometimes plays center. However, the playmaker is best suited to play on the wing. There is a good chance that Schenn will not be on the second line for long. At this point in his career, the venerable veteran is best suited to play on the third, or even fourth, line.
