Igor Shesterkin: Rangers Goaltender Has Awesome Opening Week

Igor Shesterkin earns NHL first star honors after a 2-1-0 week, a goalie goal and an assist. Evan Bouchard and Paul Cotter complete the three-star list.

Igor Shesterkin turned a rare offensive contribution into NHL first star honors Monday. The New York Rangers goalie went 2-1-0 during the opening week, posting a 1.67 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.

Igor Shesterkin contributes at both ends

Shesterkin scored his first career goal in the Rangers’ 5-1 win over Tampa Bay on Oct. 1. No Rangers goaltender had previously scored a goal.

He also added an assist in New York’s 4-2 victory over Utah on Oct. 4. Those contributions accompanied a winning record in his three appearances.

Bouchard and Cotter complete the weekly honors

Edmonton defenseman Evan Bouchard was the second star after collecting four goals and four assists in two games. Vancouver forward Paul Cotter took third star with four goals and two assists through four games with his new club.
