Igor Shesterkin, 30, was helped off the ice after injuring his right leg during the Rangers’ game against the Washington Capitals on Friday. Shesterkin went down in the crease and could not put weight on the leg as he left the game, according to NHL.com.
The Rangers and Capitals were tied 1-1 at the time. Shesterkin had stopped 13 of 14 shots before exiting.
Igor Shesterkin Injury: What Happened
The injury occurred at 8:20 of the second period while Washington was on the power play. Shesterkin was scrambling to get back into position when he jammed his right skate into the right post, and his right leg bent awkwardly underneath him as he fell.
Shesterkin stayed down on the ice while Rangers training staff attended to him. He was helped off the ice without putting weight on his right leg and needed assistance to the locker room.
Who Replaces Shesterkin
Dylan Garand took over in net for New York. The Rangers had already placed goaltender Joonas Korpisalo on injured reserve earlier this season, according to Total Apex Sports.
Shesterkin’s Season Numbers
Shesterkin was 3-1-0 in four starts this season with a 1.75 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. He had scored his first NHL goal in a 5-1 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 1.
What’s Next For The Rangers
No official update on Shesterkin’s status or injury timeline had been released by the Rangers as of Friday night.
