Sebastian Aho scored the go-ahead goal at 10:19 of the third period as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 on Tuesday at Lenovo Center. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 14 of 15 shots to improve Carolina to 10-2-2.

Pavel Zacha struck first with a snap shot at 1:31 of the opening period, assisted by Elias Lindholm and David Pastrnak. Jackson Blake tied it at 19:08 with a wrist shot off a feed from Nikolaj Ehlers, and neither team found the net again until Aho’s backhand in the third broke the tie for good. William Carrier and Andrei Svechnikov picked up the assists on the winner. Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves in the loss, including 23 at even strength, as the Bruins fell to 9-3-1.

Key Moments: How The Carolina Hurricanes Won

The game’s three goals all came in bursts at the start and end of regulation. Zacha’s opener came off the rush just over a minute into the first period, and Blake tied it with under a minute to go in that same period, setting up a scoreless second. Aho’s backhand finish proved to be the decisive goal. The Hurricanes held a 30-15 edge in shots on goal, with a 23-12 advantage in hits and a 7-3 takeaway margin.

Boston’s lone power-play conversion came on a 1-for-5 night with the man advantage, while Carolina was held scoreless on four power-play chances of its own. Despite that special-teams gap, the Hurricanes’ even-strength volume and Kochetkov’s saves at five-on-five were enough to hold up.
