Grambling State Proves No Match For Ohio State in 70-0 Win

Washington
Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin (10) drops back to pass during the first half of the NCAA football game against the Texas Longhorns at Ohio Stadium on Aug. 30, 2025.

Grambling proved no match for mighty Ohio State. The No. 1 team in the nation dispatched Grambling 70-0. Grambling got paid, and their awesome band got to perform in Ohio Stadium, but the football team was a pushover. Ohio State looked very good today; they looked every bit of the number one team in the country. Although viewers cannot tell much in such blowouts. At least Ohio State got to play much of its second, third, and fourth stringers. Do you think Ohio State will win the national championship?

Sayin Sets Accuracy Record

In the game against Grambling, Julian Sayin came out with more precision than anyone ever has, connecting on his first 16 passes to set a new school record for consecutive completions to open a game. Four touchdown passes were included in the barrage, with 290 passing yards in total. Will Howard, the last Ohio State quarterback, had the previous record of 13 consecutive completions against Notre Dame in the 2025 College Football Playoff national championship game.

An interception, Sayin’s first of the season, thrown near the goal line in the second quarter, stopped his consecutive completions streak. He came up one short of tying Ohio State’s consecutive completions record in total, as Kyle McCord connected on 18 straight across two games in 2023. Sayin was removed shortly after halftime in this blowout in favor of backup Quarterback Lincoln Keinholz. Keinholz threw his first career touchdown pass.

Bands Reign Supreme

In the highlight of this blowout victory for the Buckeyes, it was not only Alumni Band Day at Ohio Stadium, but Grambling’s band is good, too. Called the human jukebox, or the best band in the land, the Ohio State Marching Band is rightly called the “Best Damn Band in the Land.” That was easily the most attendees ever that stayed at halftime to watch the bands perform. Alumni Band Day only happens once a year in Ohio Stadium; it was appropriate that the celebration happened when Grambling was in town.

Interesting News and Notes From the OSU Win

  • Ohio State was so far ahead against Grambling that many backups got in the game.
  • Ohio State is now 5-0 all-time vs. FCS opponents. It was Ohio State’s first-ever game against Grambling State.
  • Former Ohio State coach John Cooper was the pregame Victory Bell ringer.
  • 100,624 people attended the game.

The third touchdown for Ohio State in the third quarter put them up 56-0, as freshman Running Back Isiah West ran for a 12-yard score.

In the fourth quarter, both teams ran the ball, except when Ohio State brought in its third-string quarterback. Ohio State wanted to get Tavien St. Clair some throws. Ohio State took a 70-0 lead, which was how the game ended, when Sam Dixon scored a 1-yard touchdown run.
