Devin Singletary broke free for a 30-yard touchdown run 7:25 into overtime, lifting the New York Giants past the Houston Texans 27-21 in a game that was tied three times at Reliant Stadium on Sunday. The win pushed New York to 4-2-1, while Houston fell to 2-5.

The Giants leaned on their ground game all afternoon, piling up 188 rushing yards on 34 carries. Cam Skattebo led the way with 124 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, and the Texans’ leading rusher, Woody Marks, managed just 66 yards on 19 attempts as Houston’s offense stalled behind 3.4 yards per rush.

How The Giants Won In Overtime

Houston forced overtime when C.J. Stroud found Xavier Hutchinson for a 3-yard touchdown with 52 seconds left in regulation, tying the score at 21. But New York won the coin toss and needed only one possession to end it. Singletary’s 30-yard burst capped the extra period, giving the Giants their first lead since the fourth quarter and sealing the Giants Texans 27-21 overtime result.

The Giants controlled the game statistically from the start, finishing with 420 total yards to Houston’s 237 and converting all three of their red-zone trips into touchdowns. Houston went 2-for-2 in the red zone as well but managed only 15 first downs compared to New York’s 22.

Takeaways From Giants’ Win Over Texans

J.J. McCarthy delivered in his second career start

McCarthy completed 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards without an interception, spreading the ball to five different receivers. Malik Nabers caught seven passes for 111 yards, and Malachi Fields added four catches for 83 yards. McCarthy also ran for New York’s second touchdown of the day, a 1-yard score in the second quarter credited to Jameis Winston on the scoring log but preceded by McCarthy’s own rushing attempts elsewhere in the game plan.

The ground attack carried the offense

New York rushed for 188 yards at 5.5 yards per carry, with four different players scoring rushing touchdowns across the game: Tyrone Tracy Jr., Winston, Skattebo and Singletary. That balance let the Giants control tempo and finish drives even when the passing game cooled.

Houston couldn’t finish drives

The Texans converted only 3 of 12 third-down tries and were flagged 10 times for 80 yards, nearly double New York’s four penalties for 50 yards. Stroud threw for two touchdowns and no interceptions, but Houston’s offense totaled just 237 yards, more than 180 fewer than New York’s output.

Player Of The Game: Devin Singletary

Singletary finished with five carries for 41 yards, but his final touch was the biggest of the day: a 30-yard overtime touchdown run that decided the game. He also caught three passes for 14 yards out of the backfield, giving him a hand in the Giants’ passing and rushing attacks before his game-winning burst.

Giants Vs Texans By The Numbers

New York out-gained Houston 420 yards to 237, a gap of 183 yards. The Giants averaged 6.5 yards per play compared to Houston’s 4.4. New York went a perfect 3-for-3 in the red zone and converted 2 of 2 fourth-down attempts, showing a willingness to go for it that paid off. Houston’s Ka’imi Fairbairn connected on field goals of 58 and 57 yards, two of the longest makes of the day, but his leg wasn’t enough to offset New York’s balance on offense.

What’s Next

The Giants improved to 4-2-1 and sit atop the NFC East standings. Houston dropped to 2-5 and remains tied with Indianapolis near the bottom of the AFC South. Neither team’s next opponent was included in the available data.
